Explains the relationship of the derivative with function decreasing. If the derivative is negative on the interval (a; b), then the function on it strictly decreases. Note that the converse is not true. That is, if a function strictly decreases on some interval, then it does not follow from this that its derivative will be negative over this entire interval.
